1993 960 timing belt failure
Found a beautiful 1993 960 that suffered from a broken timing belt. Seller says 'bent valves'. What is involved in fixing this? The car is beautiful inside and out and is at a knock-down price. Is it fixable economically maybe by getting a used head from a junkyard, or is this a complete teardown and overhaul?

If you have the time, and the price is simply too good to pass up (nearly nothing), I'm sure it'd make a good project for industrious hands.
IIRC, it is practical do a valve job/head swap on these cars with the motor in situ. There are probably some relevant videos up on YouTube which address the problem; and the forums might even have stickies about it. From what I know, the work is difficult; but if the rest of the motor and car is solid, it could be rewarding in the end.
Again, unless one has the time, patience, and funds to pull off a rescue, these cars almost always find their way to scrap when the "rubber band" snaps. It's just the way this all comes about with motors that do not have proper internal clearances to accommodate common timing belt failures.
So sad, but too true...
Good luck here!
