HI, I have a 1994 volvo 960 wagon. An arrow shaped light indicator flashes on the dash and the three w s e indicator lights next to the shifter cycle through flashing sequence. I need someone on the sanfrancisco peninsula with a block reader I can plug in to diagnose my problem. Help. johnny hamm @ volvo forums

 

I think I can tell you what the problem is... I had the EXACT same symptoms occur with my 1994 960 wagon, the arrow, the flashing WSE etc. Turns out that there was a very slow coolant leak that flooded a switch which told the computer which gear to be in. I ended up having to replace the switch which was like $700.

That was about a year ago and now the coolant leak has gotten worse and the problem is starting again!

If anyone can help me figure out the coolant leak I would be appreciative. It only seems to leak out when the car is off, doesn't seem to matter if the tank is pressurized. It does seem to hold some coolant , whenever I check the tank, it is empty but has coolant in the hose.

I smell coolant cooking off when I park the car, no obvious drip to be seen though.
