1996 960 short
My car will run fine and do great it has a po117 error code which is the cooling temp sensor. The problem is that my car will jump around on the temperature. causing my fan to come on early and for my acceleration to kick in without anyone putting there foot on the gas.... my question is why is my accelerator getting floored for no apparent reason without anyone touching anything... it goes up to 4000 rpm's. It is dangerous to drive much less leave idling unattended. is there any relays or switches i could replace to fix this problem.... Thanks jon
I'm assuming you've got an inline 6. As far as the temp issue goes I'd check the thermostat and temp sending unit. As far as the revs I'm not sure. The first thing I would do in that direction is check the obvious: throttle cable, throttle spool, throttle blade, make sure everything moves freely. Check the harness over for any deteriorating or loose wires as well as anything frayed.
Might also want to check the air mass meter.

You should probably check for the thermostat. When I had the same problem, the thermostat wasn’t functional so I immediately purchase a new Volvo thermostat. Fortunately, it was the only problem.
i have fixed the high rev problem. it was a short in the connector between the temp sender and the harness. now since i have fixed this problem my cars fan stays on high speed all the time as long as my ignition is in the on position. even if i do not start my car. it drains my battery constantly if i make four or a few more short trips around town. any ideas of why my fan is doing this....
