Default 760 Reliability

Haha ok guys so i know i been posting a lot lately, but hey im brand new to volvos and i got a lotta questions. how reliable can the 760's be considered? a 1987 to be exact. like i said in the other posts, its only got 30,000 miles on her, but i mean seeing as how its my daily driver now, and im only 17, i just wanna know if i should be saving up seperate funds for like..repairs and everything, or if i should be good for a while. its got the b230f with an automatic. i mean at least im pretty sure its the b230f or b230ft or something like that from research i done so far. like i said, im brand new to volvos, and i still gotta lot to learn. so lets play nice=] hahah

I have a 88 760 TIC with 123,000 mile on her. And its my daily driver and she runs perfectly! I got her from my grandfather b4 he passed away when she had 72,000 mile on her.I drive 65 miles 5 days of the week. But the only thing I hate is the gas mileage

IsuzuFire, before I forget... If the timing belt has not been replaced in the past 10 years, I would do that before it breakes, that would ruin your day!!!

Other than that, I had a 740 GLE with over 400,000 miles on it and it looked almost new. I sold it to a single mom for $7.38. Not sure what she has done with it, I try not to ever look back.

What kind of gas milage are you getting? I use to get 24.5 mpg with my 740. I know the 760's are a little heavier but being turbo shouldn't mess with the milage that much.

http://www.FuelEconomy.gov says they should get about 18 mpg. Yikes!!! Only one car is registered.

Ahh...but being turbo does mess w/ the mileage. The combination of lower compression, ecu's with richer fuel maps and age tends to make the T cars get 2-5 mpg worse. Then there's the little matter of taking 15 minutes and adding a manual boost controller and cranking the boost from stock 7-8 p.s.i. to 15 p.s.i. That takes the stock 157 hp rating up to almost 200hp. And...doing so means running premium gas. The rest is dictated by your right foot!

Turbo boost controler. You can find them on a lot of sites but I like to use www.IPDUSA.com. They really helped me out when I lived overseas and they are committed to Volvo owners.
