Default 760 starting problems ?

I recently aquirred an 82 760, v-6. I'm having a starting issue with it. In the morning it starts fine. drive for a while shut it off like if your going into a tore or some thing. Come back to the car it's very difficult to start. I have to crank it over and give it throttle and after about five or six times it starts, runs rough but goes to normal idle after a few seconds. If I turn it off and then try starting it up right away it starts fine. It's only after a wait that it won't start up first go. My suspicion is it may be a cold start injector problem or a fuel pressure regulator. ?????
I'm a Nissan Toyota owner but this car was just too good to say no too, It's totally alien to me ? Help appreciated !

It sounds like a possible fuel pressure issue. If it loses pressure when hot, you will get vapor lock in the fuel lines and it wont start.

I'm sure this is a CIS system. Are there fuel lines to each injector?

If it is, the injectors are prone to leaking down. You can warm up the car, pop the injectors out (lines still attached) and see if any of them are dripping.

If they are have them cleaned and replace the injector o-rings. That might take care of it, or you might need to replace the leaking injector.

If your lucky, that's your problem.

These systems are very complex.

I will check that out, thanks. And yes it does look like a very complex set up. There are numerous things on the engine that have been disconnected and by passed by the previous owner. Do you know of a resource that would identify them and their function ? I would realy like to get this car running well.

I have to be honest, you need to run away from this car! It's not worth spending any money on! It is a never ending money pit!

Sorry for the negative opinion!

No way, I appreciate your honesty ! Looking at the miles of vacuum lines and assorted other spaghetti under the hood I'm sure this car was not Volvos finest moment ! The car is in excellent shape, needs shocks in the worst possible way but no rust for a BC car and everything works on it. My wifes 84 Toyota Cressida is in the process of throwing a rod. I have another engine for it but I have to build it up and the Volvo for $700 seemed like a gift in the mean time. Once the Toyota is back up and running I was toying with the idea of putting either a GM Vortec with a 700R-4 tranny in it or maybe a Ford 5 litre with an AOD transmission. It's a nice solid rear wheel drive brick if I can get it reliable. It does kind of look like a giant 510, it's grown on me......I should know better !

There is info out there on how to do the conversion. We had a cutomer that even wrote a book on how to do it.

And by the way, that V-6 engine was built by Renault!

And the Delorean used to have it in some of them!

Ha ! That would figure, it's about the ugliest v-6 I've ever laid eyes on. I think the Vortec swap would be the easiest to do. It's a nice tight engine, I figure I can pick one up with all the under hood wiring and ECM for about $1000. Lot's of power and probably better mileage than the ****** that's in there now !
