Rear Shocks Worn Out?
Hey everyone,
I have a 1996 960 with 96k miles
Lately whenI am going over very bumpy surfaces I hear what sounds like clunking and rattling from the rear of the car. I am wondering is an indication that my rear shocks are shot. I took a quick look at them the other day and they look as if they could be as old as the car. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your response. There doesn't seem to be any excesive bouncing comming from the rear when going over speed bumpsor dips in the road. It doesn't make the rattling noise when going over speed bumps, only on really bumpy uneven surfaces. I haven't had a chance to getunder the rear of the carand check the bushings yet. Are there any specific ones you think I should focus on?
Are you sure it's coming from the rear? I had exactly the same noise in the front of my '97 960, expecially if only ONE of the front wheels went over a bump. I replaced the sway bar links (prone to wear) - problem gone!
