Default 87 Turbo 760 running rough when cold

When I first start the engine I struggle to keep it running. I've raised the idle about 300 rpm to help but it still likes to die. After about 10 minutes or so it runs okay but with a marked decrease in power than before.

I recently replaced the fuel filter when the car suddenly stopped running. Just this week I found a gasket that completely pushed out of some kind of turbo bypass/wastegate valve that has a vacuum line leading to the intake manifold. The valve body was very loose so I replaced the gasket; the vacuum line was also so badly cracked that when I pushed on it it split so I replaced it also. I've also changed the oil and run a full tank of gas with injector cleaner. No change to how the car runs.

I sprayed a bunch of carb cleaner on various parts and hoses but noticed no change. The timing is running right at 20 BTDC.

Any ideas? Sound like a vacuum line? Something that controls the mix when cold?

Dave

Could be a tempature sensor that changes the air fuel mix when the engine is cold. Did you try to look at that "Step By Step Volvo" repair site?

Really could be a number of things: MAF, Temp sensor, air control valve, etc. Does the car have a obd-1 coder that you can get a faul from?

To the best of my knowledge there is no obd-1 code port.

The step-by-step site was really not very helpful.
How do I check these parts? I really don't want to just start replacing parts at random.

So I started looking at the air filter and such and found that the tube from the MAS to the turbo was degraded (at the turbo inlet) to the point that it had fallen off of the turbo. This meant that the turbo unit was sucking air from the engine compartment and not through the MAS and filter etc.

Anybody know a good place to get a new tube? It looks like a custom manufactured item. It also looks like the original equipment which means it's well over 23 yrs old!
