i have a 94 Volvo 960 that i love, it has 177,000 miles on it. i was on my way back from work and the temp in my car suddenly increased, i stopped at the signals and suddenly my car just goes dead. i get my car towed and when i open the hood i see that there is no anti-freeze or water. i fill it up with anti freeze, but my car still wont start, the lights in my car work but my horn doesnt so i thought maybe the battery died down (which i dont know y) however i tried to jump start my car but it still wouldnt, also another thing i noticed was as soon as turn the igntion one click before i the actualy start the car , the rmp meter goes all the way to up and there a funny buzzing noise. could anyone please give me some advice or info as to what the problem is.

 

ok so i tried jump starting my car once again, however it wouldnt start, it seems as if the engine wants to start as if it is almost gona crank up but it doesnt, also i noticed that the anti freeze would keep bubbling and spill out and when i would open it would come out with pressure. anyone knows what the problem is?

 

The Headgasket is blown.

You will need to remove the head and replace the gasket. Also have the head checked by a machine shop.

 

thanks for the info. i spoke with some one else and they said that it maybe my thermostat, cuz each time i try to start my car the water pump overflows. i myself was suspecting the head gasket too. how much do u think will it cost me for a head gasket. once again appreciate the info.

both. one more thing, i dont understand y my water tank keeps on over flowing, each time i try to start my car or charge the battery ( i thought maybe it was the alternator) does that mean that i also have to get it flushed.

 

Thats why I say headgasket. Either compression from the cylinders is getting pumped into the cooling system. Or The Exhaust is getting pumped into the cooling system. Thats why it overflows the bottle.

 

oh ok, makes sense. how much you think it gona cost me. i have a friend who works on cars, so i am thinking of getting the gasket my self and having him install it. i dont know if that the right thing to do or shoulfd i take it to the mechanics. if i do take it to the workshop how much do u think should it cost me part and labour. i am kinda new in the US so i dont really know my way around, i have heard that if you are not careful mechanics can really rip you off. thanks

 

It will cost quite a bit to have a shop do it.
Im not sure exactly but somewhere like $600.00 to $800.00.

If your freind knows quite a bit have him do it. If you need any info ask here and we will all help you.
