'95 960 cylinder head compatibility

'95 960 cylinder head compatibility
Well, I've got bent valves in just about every cylinder. Assuming I can find the tools (I hope to be able to rent them somewhere), I'd like to replace the head with a complete salvage unit (I've found some fairly reasonable prices).
The problem is that I can't figure out which years have cylinder heads that are guaranteed to be compatible with our '95. Hollander says 92 through 94 heads interchange with each other, as do 95 through 98 (S90/V90) heads. The parts dept at my local Volvo dealer more or less corroborates this (one part number for 92-94, another for 95 and up). However, other sources are telling me that the interchange is 92 through 95 (96 and up is different). And even other sources are telling me it doesn't matter, that any head from 92 through 98 will work.
What's confuses me further is that our valve cover has 93, 94 and 95 each in a little circle cast into it. At first I wondered if this was the original head (or even original engine). Now I'm thinking perhaps the dealership (and Hollander Interchange) might have it wrong.
The valve cover has 1001537-2 cast into its underside and the head has 1001536 P02 3 0 cast into the passenger side.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated; I'm ready to order a used head as soon as I figure out where I'm going to get the three Volvo tools for the job!
