Default '95 960 starting problem, plus OBD location

Went to start up my 960 automatic today, it's normally very reliable, problem free for the past 3 years that I've owned it. Anyway, although the engine turns over and I get the feeling that it is almost starting, nothing.

Connected another battery and tried some EasyStart into the air intake, and still no start. I figure that I need to read the OBD code and find out what's wrong, first I need to get the correct reader, and second I need to find the socket!

As mine is a 960 6 cylinder there isn't a Haynes workshop manual for it.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in anticipation

You can go to step by step volvo instructions to see if you can find a solution there. Also, I believe that car has an obd-II port just right of the hand brake.

Thanks for that, can you tell me where I can find the step by step instructions please, and the OBD port, is that likely to involve removing the plastic panels from around the handbrake? I've had a look and not found anything yet. Am I looking for a socket built into a panel or is it likely to be on the end of loose cable?

OBDII started in 1996, your car is OBDI and you can read the codes by using the reader under the hood on the driverside fender.

Do a search for instructions.

Yes it certainly is, I have now found it, though of course, in my case, it's on the passenger side fender . I did look under the bonnet previously, but having a better idea of what to look for and where to look aided my search.

Now I need to look for info on how to use it to find out what my little problem is.

I'd really like to get this car going again because it's my third, and best so far, Volvo

This is the OBD socket I have. There's a little cap at the end which I prised off, hoping to find a button and an led, but what is there looks more like a specialised socket than that.

This is the page of instructions I was following
http://www.autodiagnostika.jantolak....obd1-volvo,191

and this is the socket

Can anyone advise whether there is something I need tog et to plug into this socket?
