Default '96 960 A/C compressor question

This is my first Volvo and I have owned it now for 6 weeks. Here is my question.... My a/c worked fine this morning when I drove my car....blows hard and ice cold. After turning the car off and then back on again, no cold air and I don't hear the compressor. Fuses are all fine. The a/c evaporator was replaced in 1999. Is it possible that the compressor is not coming on because freon could be low? Phoenix is freaking hot in the summer without air!!

If it was blowing Ice cold then not it could be low on freon or the compressor is bad.
If you have a test light check for power at the compressor. If you have no power go to the dryer and check for power at the low pressure switch. If you only have power on one side then you might be low on freon.

Thank you. I will try the test light for power. Would being low on freon actually cause the compressor not to come on? Does that happen with Volvo compressors? Typically in the past with other cars the air has started to warm up as the freon ran out.

It usually cycles before it stops. If you have power at the compressor the clutch is bad or needs to be reshimmed.
