The A/C compressor never engages in my '97 960. All other climate control functions work fine. The A/C button lights up when set to defog and also when pushed but there is no sign of the A/C clutch attempting to engage. I checked every fuse in the car that I could find. Any ideas?

One other thing I'm curious about is that I always get heat unless the temperature dial is turned down to the coldest notch. If it's up even one notch there is heat. Is that normal and could it be related to the A/C problem?

 

The A/C compressor will not engage if the freon level is low. Have the system serviced and if it still doesn't work the compressor or compressor clutch could be bad. The A/C shop will tell you.

The later problem could be related especially if you are in a warm climate.
