96 960 check engine codes

Hey, im working on a 96 960 for a friend of mine. Can someone run me through how to pull the check engine light codes and how to turn it off. thanks

For the 1996 you need an OBDII scanner.

I got an inexpensive scanner off eBay for like $30 plus shipping. Pretty basic, but it scans and ERASES codes/resets check engine light. It has been helpful for my nagging P0440 code, which I need to finish sorting out, but meanwhile I don't have to see that annoying light...

Good tool to have.
