Default 960 door panel leather repair

Good day all,
for anyone driving (or driven) a 960, you'll know what Im talking about when I ask how to repair the leather door panel.
I understand that the sun uv breaks down the original adhesive, then stretches the leather allowing it to bunch up once it retracts again.

Well, the new(er) 1996 960 I just bought my wife has this as the only issue I can see - so far.

Any of you well informed and knowledgeable volvo ers out there know how to fix this? Procedure, type of adhesive to re mend, time required or cost to have someone do - in Burlington Ontario Canada.

thanks in advance

Wow, that car looks nice. Sad to say, I have had a few 960's but do not know of a fix for the door panel VINYL streatch. Some have replaced the panels at a cost of about $350 per door.

LOL, I stand corrected ...VINYL
Not sure I want to spend $350.00 per door, that would almost cost as much as the car did.
any directory pics on door panel removal?
I'll give it a try on one panel myself, and if it works great, if not, to the upholstery place I go.

thanks

Thanks. This is just what I needed to do mine. What I will use in contact cement to gle the loose parts back to the frame. To stretch the vinyl, I will use a blow dry and pull the material into shape or long enough to tuck back.

I have a new weekend project . . .
Thanks.

Not to steal your thread , but my "new" 960 has the same issue. I am going to stop in at a small auto upholstery shop near my house, next week. I'll let ya know what he thinks.

When going to a salvage yard, be careful with color. These cars have a tan color that you may think is the same but isn't. I tried to swap a panel in my 960 and soon learned that the color was a shade of two off. I guess it's best to verify the color code of the interior. Once is tan another is camel, etc. There may be 3 tanish colors out there.

As for heating this material, not sure how that would work. If the problem is caugh soon, as soon as it starts bunching up, maybe that would work. But after it has been creased for several months or so, I just don't see it shrinking. Let us know how that works out. I would like to see someone figure out how to repair the handle areas of the S70's. They are a mess as well.

Every 960 I've seen and many v70, s90,s70 have the issue of the vinyl coming off the door panels. V70 have it worse with the material seperating right above the arm rest. Looks like water damage to the untrained eye.

In either event, does Volvo have any recommendations or cures to this issue?
I can't imagine that the builder of a quality automobile( prior to 1999) would let this go unresponsive.

My Volvo interior is grey, how many variations of grey are there?

I'm going to a upholstery shop this week, and get a quote, but Im sure I'll be trying one of the doors myself just because I have to try it.

Volvo's cure is to replace part of the panel. They come apart somehow. They don't have a problem with you spending $$$ for parts on a 10 year old car.
