960 Head Gasket job. Would like info
I'm going to tackle the head gasket replacement on my '97 960 wagon. I would like to know what the best sets of information are for the job. I have these links already:
Volvo 960 service & repair manual https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...ts-pics-44879/ (which I know is for an 850, but looks useful) https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...ls-help-37873/ and https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...dgasket-48908/ Have others found things like the Chilton manuals (mentioned in some threads) to be useful. I'd like to have printed out step by step instructions that I can mark off as I go. Also, is there anything I should know (like what is the most common screw-up when doing this job) ;-) that seems obvious but an amateur might not know? I did a head gasket on an '80's vintage Honda (Accord?) back in the 90's. But haven't tackled anything like that since. Thanks in advance for any advice. |
So, how did the head gasket replacement work out? I'm getting myself prepared to do the same for a 93 960. so researching is crucial. I have the entire gasket kit from Elwes. I will be doing the camshaft seals, valve stem seals and others as well. Any words of wisdom for me? Cautions? special tools? Thanks in advance for any response.

seems like you got all the info :) hope it worked out well. as long as you took your time, and you keep everything organized its a two weekend job. 1 weekend to remove it all, a week to have the head serviced by the shop, and a weekend to put it all back in :).
