I believe the sensor is located in the rear end.

And it is the same one for both systems.

The usual cause is the connector has some corrosion or has been knock by road debris.

Good luck

my chiltons manual is saying to remove 2 bolts in order to lower the rear differential assembly, however i cannot determine what 2. does anybody have any advice on this. It looks impossible to get the rear abs sensor out without dropping the diff assembly

I have removed them without dropping the diff. It is a pain but can be done. Check the plug for the sensor. It uses the same connector type as the ones for the coil packs.

Yes it is very tight. I usually use long 90 Degree needle nose pliers to grab and slide the plug up. I use a small screwdriver to lift the tab up for the plug.

i needed to change mine too, and wrestled with how to reach it, I just could not figure out how to get at it while laying on my back, and it was in such a tight location. I ended up using a dremel cutting tool in the trunk to cut an access panel. I had to remove the trunk carpet and there are some carpeted panels that had to be removed as well. Once the panel was cut out - i had easy access to the abs sensor. I just eyeballed the approximate location of the sensor when i was marking the area to cut. Hope this helps if you determine you can't get to it any other way.
