Default 960 Wiper Blades Suddendly Stopped Working

A couple of days ago I was driving in the rain with my wipers on normal speed and they were working fine as always.

When the rain got heavier I switched the wiper setting to high speed and right away it seemed like something broke on the drivers side because it stopped working and seemed loose.

I got out of the car and tried to figure out what the problem was, but all I could tell is that it didn't seem as tight as it should. I also fiddled with the passenger side wiper.

When I got back in the car I discovered that neither blade would work. Does anyone have any idea or suggestion on what the problem could be?

Can you tell if the motor is spinning? There are two points of wear on the linkage system, where the wiper arm fastens to the stud with a nut, and a pivot point below the air vent under the hood.

See if the motor runs, look and see if the stud is turning, if it is try tightening the nuts on the wiper arms. If that does not help then you will need to remove the air vent underneath the wiper arms and take a look at the linkage, could be another loose bolt or nut. I had the one come loose that attaches to the motor.

Thanks for the information. I will check it out when I get a chance. Too much snow right now.

I got two working wipers and windshield washer again. It took me about 2 minutes and a half inch socket to tighten the nuts holding the washer arms down.

Many thanks to you DanR. I would never thought the problem was something so simple to fix.
