965-II aka V90 wagons
so just how problematic IS the fancy IRS and transverse leaf spring of the 965-II and V90 wagons? Sure, I know i'm stuck with Nivomats, no putting overload springs and Bilstein HDs on it ...
I've been shopping for months for a clean 940 turbo wagon and just not finding one to my liking, and I'm starting to look at some 960's. Gonna look at one later today, a 96 with 129K miles that sounds really clean (of course, won't know til I see it).
We had a 93 960 (original) and my wife had a S90 that ate its timing belt so we know all about the the whiteblock 6, good and bad (smooth as silk, nice power/torque, but expensive to repair etc), as well as potential issues with interior power accessories. I also remember how nice that 960 and S90 were to drive.
I guess the IRS means 4 more joints in the rear, and a couple more seals... does the rear end hold up well over high mileage? how about the aw40-30 tranny vs the AW71 thats in most 945's ?
