The AC does fine until the outside temperature goes above 85F. I switched to Enviro-Safe's "Industrial 12a" and the system was fantastic. My compressor died at 135K and now replacing it. Trying to decide whether to go back to R-134 in the hope it will cope with over 85F temps or again purchase (non CFC) 12a from Auto Refrigerants.com assuming that Volvo never designed for Southern California temperatures. Car was originally sold in Newport Beach.

My 97 S90 had 134A in it to begin with and I put a compressor on it at 110K last year. Here in Florida all of my Volvos are using 134a and will freeze you out on recirculate. On the 97 S90 PAG100 and 134a was the factory fill. If you put too much oil or freon in it won't cool right. Also check the condensor, if the fins are blocked with dirt, bugs or whatever it will effect the cooling. On my cars I have screen in front of the condensors to keep the bugs out. We have love bugs here bad twice a year.

I have the evaporator tube for both R12 and R134, so I could use R134 in my rebuild. I just was reluctant to spend the money on a professional installation only to have it not cool the car this summer when the temp goes over 85 degrees.
