Default ABS problem

ABS isn’t working on my Volvo 760 89 PRV. I measured the front sensor with DVOM and got the following results:
  • Resistance >1 on both sensors (seems to be open)
  • Spinning the wheel and measuring mV gives me fluctuations on mV, for example 100mV.
Are the sensors dead if the resistance is infinite? Measured from the leads on the connector.

Pump is working.

see if volvotips.com has any details for the 740/760 ABS. Did you also compare the left and right wheel sensors? Also sometimes the ABS acts up when the tone ring inside the wheel (what the sensor reads) gets dirty/rusted up. You may have some luck cleaning the wheel

I managed to solve this, luckily. If it helps anybody with a similar problem, both front sensors were indeed dead (open circuit instead of 1000ohms or so)… or at least changing them to new ones fixed the problems.

All clear now.
