I'm a new owner of a 1997 960 Wagon.
Have any of you added heated seats to your car?
I've seen many kits but real-life experience is always helpful.
I did a quick search on the forum but didn't see anything relevant.
The front wheel drive cars of the same era are fully wired, so you can add them just by putting in a couple seats and switches from another car. It's probably the same on the 960. The 850's around here, a lot of them tended to be cold weather package cars with leather and so the heated seats are available in excess. After 25 years, though, in some cases you'll find a toaster wire has gone bad and all that. The heaters are available if you're not afraid to R&R the upholstery.

Thanks for the response. The PO had sheepskin covers on the seats and they are in very good condition. So swapping seats from another car isn't really a good option. I'm really looking for some tips on adding the heaters to my existing seats. There is a local upholstery shop that will do it for about $500 but I wanted to see if anyone here had any direct experience adding them. Then there's the option of buying the parts from Volvo or going with an aftermarket kit. Decisions, decisions, decisions. . .
I doubt Volvo can help you sourcing parts, too old for them to care. If the car is prewired you maybe able to add the heating pads under the uphostery, the switches, relay, etc. Lot of work and hassle and hopefully you won't set the seats on fire in the end.

Relays and switches and wires Oh My!!!
There's' only one relay in the circuit and that's an overload relay. More like a circuit breaker. The electrical part of the job is pretty easy and there are no worries about "catching the seats on fire". From my point of view, the only hard work and hassle is getting the existing seat covers off and back on. I've done it before on other cars when I was younger but I'm just not feeling like doing it right now. I was just wondering if anyone here had done it and had any tips.
