What would you do with this? I'm not confident that this cap will last and will cause a stranded in the mtns situation. Or worse , my wife will be borrowing the car when it breaks loose. This is the #1 cap closest to the timing belt.
I think these are cracks and not forging lines, most people I've talked to say don't worry about it because the line doesn't go to the other side...that was my machinist. and another machanic I know. The line boring on the head was and isn't mentioned when you buy a new camshaft. (Or used cam) I only learned that after I noticed these cracks. On Turbobricks. Hmm I might just run it anyways we will see.
So I studied the lines with four guys at work and 3 out of 4 think they are casting lines 1 just said, it sure doesn't look new. We were using a good magnifying glass and I were able to see much more. So basically, the cam is worked over pretty hard, you can see the stress, but the major lines that I thought were cracks do appear to be casting lines. Why does my cam have two casting lines right through the middle? I don't know? Friday at the factory perhaps.
