Greetings all, new to the group. The A/C compressor in my 1994 Volvo 960 Station Wagon (using R134) fragmanted, blew oil all over, etc. And of course the compressor pulley does not turn.

I know I need to replace the compressor, the condensor, and perhaps the expansion valve (yes/no?) and the tubing in between these parts. Any ideas on what I might be missing in addition to all this? And how to identify the tubes & connectors on a parts-ordering site? Any help here would certainly be appreciated.

The reason that it's suggested to replace all of the components is because the compressor may have thrown bits of metal or something else into the system.

If you are going to get the expansion valve replaced then you may as well get the evaporator too. You should replace the drier bottle if there is any question because it's impossible to clean.

If the tubing is not broken then you can probably just flush them out with solvent.

Last time I bought an o ring kit for a car, there weren't enough o rings in the bag... I should have bought two.

If the system is not open when you get to it then it is probably ok to take all of it. Cap everything off and consider flushing everything. You may be able to have the compressor tested off the car.

The junkyard near me supposedly evacuates and leaves a vacuum behind before putting the cars out in the yard. Give the compressor and clutch a good look for oil leaks. I am not sure if it is a good idea to try to turn the compressor shaft while it is under vacuum.

The dryer bottle and expansion valve or orifice should be replaced with new though.
