Default Coolant level drops without a leak

I have a 1997 960 sedan. The coolant light has come on a couple of times. I check the resevoir and it is down, so I added coolant. It keeps going low, yet there isn't a leak anywhere. I checked the oil to see if I had a head gasket leak, but the oil is good. Also the temp gauge has gone up a bit higher than normal a couple of times.

Any thoughts?

I thought about that, it has pressure in the system when it is warm and I can't find any moisture anywhere inside or out.

You can easily have head gasket issues w/o it showing in the oil. I've even seen them pass the hydrocarbon test for the coolant w/ a mild HG issue. If it's not leaking onto the motor, driveway or onto your floor...it's probably a head gasket. My 84 760 Tic has had a minor HG leak for over a year. Still passes the hydrocarbon test w/ flying colors...but w/ a new rad, thermostat, hoses and water pump....highway driving makes the temp gauge just start creeping right up. No smoke, clean oil! My point? It's normal to rule out all the other less expensive issues first; I'll put my money on the head gasket.
