front end wobble
I have a volvo 960 1996 with 235,000 miles... lately i have noticed that when driving straight at about 30-40 mph...the wheel has a left to right wobble...but it cleans right up if i begin to turn left or right. I mostly notice it in between long winding turns..when for a brief 10 to 15 seconds I am going straight..the wheel is not steady.....it wobbles...then when i began to make another long left or long right...it goes away immediately until i am straight again...any ideas?

front end wobble
Just got back from vacation and haven't had an opportunity to run through the check list u sent me...btw thank you... but while contemplating how to address this new problem i realized in my first thread i didnt mention that I also receive this wobble when breaking when coming downhill from a considerable speed..40-50mph or breaking somewhat suddenly from hwy speeds of 60 or 70mph. I dont know if this changes anything with regards to ur earlier diagnostic reply,,,but thought I might mention it... thanks again for all your help....I brag about this Forum to everybody!!

This sounds an awful lot like what I was experiencing with mine recently. Turns out it was the lower ball joint when at first I thought it might be a brake rotor. It was pretty easy to tell by jacking up a wheel, grabbing hold of it and seeing if you could move it in or out at the bottom. If not, you can try side to side if a steering joint is going out.
If you can't see any motion in the joints when trying to torque on the wheel, it may still be a front bearing, but I'd caution you that it may be a little hard to tell with the wheel off the ground since the car's weight on a marginal bearing can mean the difference between noisy/loose and not.
Start with the obvious stuff first. "If you hear hoofbeats, think horses not zebras..."
