Well it looks like the starter on the '95 960 has gone. I get the solenoid click, but the starter does not turn at all. The battery is fine and the wiring to the starter looks tight.

Here are my questions:

Since I have not had one of these before, what is the R&R procedure? Do I go in from the bottom or the top to do this? It looks like Volvo stuck the starter in the most inconvenient place!

If I have to go from the top, what needs to be taken out (intake manifold, etc) to get to the starter?

Has anybody used one of those cheap NSA new starters?
If not, do you recommend an AC/Delco or a Bosch replacement?

The car is stuck in the driveway for now...
