Hi everyone, i am really hoping someone here can help me....i been struggling now for weeks trying to get the correct part....I have a 1996 volvo 960 wagon that needed a sample fix (inner tie rods). So i ordered a set from volvo and they came in ....they where wrong too long, ok so brought them back and order the other mfg inner tie rods, again too long....finally i order the 3rd mfg and still too long.....they are all about 3in too long for my car.....i am at a lost, i have ordered TRW, CAM, and Koyo and the corresponding ends, no combination will allow me to adjust the front end properly with out extreme inward and outward tow. I need help, even Volvo told me that only 3 MFG types where made....I know i have TRW style outer tie rods, did TRW have two different size inner tie rods?

Any Help would be appreciated, i am at a lost and dont wanna order a whole new rack .

Can you show a photo of the data plate on your car? This will allow one of us to find the variant that you should have.

 

I'll post the plates tonight. My tie rod is about 240mm all the others are about 270-285mm.

Also i found this part number :Volvo: 9140 788 this appears to be 240mm long......so it would be the about 3in shorter i need......is this correct?

 

You should have the TRW rack because this is a '96 model.

Check your part numbers to see that you got the right ones? I would get 9140788 as shown as #3 here. Older cars have a different TRW rack!

yea i think i got the older TRW inner tie rod because the part number volvo sold me was:

then i ordered:
API Part # 260070127
API Part # 260071650
TRW Part # ES3229

all of these are about 280mm long or 12in


Thats why i think the part you listed will be the right one as well...also like i said it has the right size its 240mm (~8in) compared to the 3 sets i already ordered that are much longer...

9140788 crosses to TRW JAR1055 and the catalog says "Length is 207mm." About 8.15 inches. This may be the effective installed length, not the end to end length of the part as it is in the box. Good luck!

 

Thank you I ended up ordering the tie rod ends through the large Volvo dealer outside of Boston. Perfect fit.
