Default I need tips for removing a 960 Fuel Pump

I have a 1996 960 Sedan that needs a new fuel pump. I have the fuel pump to put in but am looking for any tips to getting the old one out. Has anybody cut a bigger access panel in the trunk? Does anyone have tips on getting the old unit out? Its pretty tight to get all those hoses and hose clamps off.
Thanks

So I diving into removing the fuel pump assembly and I have all the hoses removed but I cant seem to break the assembly loose to get it out of the tank. Any ideas on breaking it loose?

This thread is more than 2.5 months old. I suppose you've got it done already.

My experience is with the 960 wagon, same small access panel only with easier access since the rear windshield is all the way back at the tailgate.

At the time I wished I had access to a giant pair of Channelocks to get hold of the top that holds pump assembly. I finally resorted to use a large flat head screw driver, place it tangent to one of the grooves on the ring and slowly tap it loose. Counter-clockwise of course. Hope that helps if you hadn't got it off already.
