Idling Rough, Gaining and Losing Power
I'm pretty sure I have an idea as to what the problem is on my 1992 960 however I would like a second opinion from an expert in here if possible. I just noticed today as I was driving that the engine was idling real rough and a lose and gain of acceleration as I was driving. When I got to my destination I opened the door and it sounded as if I had an exhaust leak. I think my Cat may be backed up and or losing power form the leak if this is what it is? Does this sound right? if so any ball park figure on how much a repair like this would run for one of these cars?
Thanks in advance,
David

RE: Idling Rough, Gaining and Losing Power
not really sure bought the car used but I do know at 125,000 he timing belt snapped and the previous owner had about 5,000 dollars worth of work done to the vehicle. I was wondering if it is the exhaust what am I lookin at to replace this cost wise?
Thanks

RE: Idling Rough, Gaining and Losing Power
okay well I cleared all codes like you stated and took it for a test drive ranging in mph from 15 to 50 after doing so I came back and pulled three codes 2-1-2, 1-1-3, and 1-1-5, I also notice a strong smell could is possibly be my O2 sensor is faulting causing to strong of a fuel mixture which is causingthe engine to run rough. As well when I accelerate sometimes it's bogged down and then picks back up and then boggs back down could this have anything to do with to strong of a fuel mixture?
Thanks for all the advice,
David

RE: Idling Rough, Gaining and Losing Power
one thing I notice is that it doesn't give me a problem until it starts to warm up on a cold start it idles, revs up and runs fine do you think it could be the air temp sensor as I notice you stated in other post it will cause the car to run rough as well
