If the coolant temp sensor was bad it would set a code.

okay well looks like this is a mechanic issue as I am not one myself but thank you for all your advice what do you think would cause it to run fine though when at a cold start but then begin to give problems as it ran for a while.

It could be many things.
The computer richens the mixture when cold then when it warms up it leans it out.
You may have a vaccum leak or something like that.

well if I'm reading the code right it says injector number 1 is faulty how is the pattern of the fuel injectors on the 960 does it go 1 to 6 starting from front of the engine (ie where the radiator is) or does it go 6 to 1?

It should go from 1 to 6.
But the injectors are split.
1-3-5 2-4-6
They are in 2 circuits

one more question have many o2 sensors does the volvo have my understanding there is one but I know some car models have one in front of the cat and in the back?

I think the 1992 only has one on it.
I could be wrong the 92's don't come in very often.
