Default License Plate Bulbs

All,

I have a 97 960 wagon. Both license plate bulbs are bad (I tried the Volvo whack - which works on the XC90 - but the bulbs are still out). 2 problems. The owners manual says to unscrew the plastic covers, twist out the bulbs and replace. Two problems:
1. The bulb holder covers are not held with standard screws. The screw headsrequire a small star-shaped bit which the hardware store can't ID.
2. There is no mention of a standard bulb (5W W2 1x9.5d) to fit it.

As usual, the owners manual conflicts with reality. Any ideas? Do I need to take it to a Volvo dealer (not easy) to replace these bulbs? Seems kind of rediculous if true.

Thanks.

patrick

Default RE: License Plate Bulbs

The screws are torxes bit screws.
The bulb is a 194 bulb.
