My 16 years old 960 3000cc
Hello all.
960 cuts out while driving, sometime it recovers by turning ignition key, but some time cuts out completely, It happens in hot weather. Hotter the weather it gets worse. Garage I regularly visit could not find why! They replaced the ECU with recon version. Any ideas how to stop cut outs?
Car has done 230K and when it is good it runs perfectly...
I can write more details if you need.

did you check the crank postition sensor?
it may not be what you are experiencing but, i have seen 2 960's, including mine, do a quick off and on when the AC compressor turns off (or on). i also had a jeep that did it. turned out the clutch was bad on the jeep. the one volvo may have been the clutch or the low pressure cut switch, mine, i have not fixed it yet.

I 2nd checking the crank position sensor. My son's Saab was doing the same thing. Would cut out while driving and sometimes coming right back on and other times he would have to turn the key off and restart the car. It took some time to locate the problem since it was intermittent; but once the crank position sensor was replace no more problem.
What I did is checked all cable connections in the engine area and checked passenger and driver side connections, Which cured the most of the cut outs but still doing cut out at traffic lights than send car to garage to change "crank position sensor" Guys "A.R. Mills" called that problem is may be cracked Crank bracket. it would give similar issues. I would know in few hours cost and time.
Yes part is available from Sweden it will be here in 7 days and worth £5. gremlins going away! just to tell you my Volvo guys are http://tinyurl.com/npm85x
