New to Volvos, witha few questions
Hi all. I bought my neighbors 93 960 wagon (156K miles). It was too nice a price to pass up. The 960 will be used by both myself and my mother in law when she drives my boys around after school. My wife won't drive it ~shrug~ Better for me.
I own a 02 jeep Wrangler so I am used to doing some of the work on my own vehicles. I have had 4 new tires and an alignment done already.
I know I need to do a brake job (soft feel when I depress the pedal) and an oil change on the 960.
I found tech's response to this thread: https://volvoforums.com/m_41192/tm.htmbut wanted to make sure that it will be the same for a 93 960. I presume the rear brakes and rotors will be similar.
I plan on getting the OEM pads (or the Akebone ceramics...I hate brake dust (c: ) from FCPgroton. I have some spare silicon grease in my garage, do I need to specifically use the stuff at fcpgroton or will what I have work?
I have a feeling that my rotors are warped as the wheel shudders with hard braking. I thought I saw that Zimmerman rotors were the way to go.
I see that for the rear it says with or without IRS. What is IRS and how do I find out if I have it.
How difficult is an oil change? Is there a writeup for it that I missed?
Any idea where to get replacement speaker covers? I have 1 speaker working (left passenger) the others are dead and the speaker covers were broken. I was planning on getting new speakers from Crutchfield but I can not seem to find the speaker covers online, thoughts? (Part No.s 17638 RH, 17630 RH, and 17629 LH).
Lastly, for the moment, when driving over a bump, I get a sound like maybe the struts have gone bad (metallic clunk). How easy are replacing struts...and/or shocks...should that need to be done? Upon further reading, this appears that it might be the bushings. Any idea how to determine?
Thanks.
Clint

That should work for your car as well
IRS is indipendent rear suspension
Not would be a solid axle.
Oil change is easy.
Dealer on the speaker covers
Maybe the sway bar links are bad for the noise.

Thanks Tech. I figured out IRS about the same time as you posted. It was one of those DOH! moments. I look forward to working up underneath the car.
As for the oild change...i notice some od the service receipts mention a gasket...I'm used to popping the oil filter off, lipping the new filter with some oil and popping it back in...is there a gasket needed?

Mann or Volvo filter.
They are the best for the car.
The Volvo one has a check valve in it to hold oil pressure after the car has been turned off.
Some of the Mann's have them and others don't.
