Default Oil Light

Hey hows it goin, my oil light keeps commin on and off and some times kinda flickers. The oil level is up to where it should be, some times it will get a slight lifter knock then it will go away. Soooo wtf do you guys think it would be? Oil pump? Oil pressure sensor? Maybe i could get away with flushing the motor? Its got almost 224k miles so would it be safe to flush the motor? Im just gonna use sea foam to flush it out. What kind of oil should i run in it...since its got a boat load of miles. Thanks guys.

Oil light is oil pressure. It's coming on when the oil pressure is low. Could be a number of things, from excessive bearing clearances, to a weak oil pump. Depends on how far you want to delve into it. I'd start first with a thicker oil, like Rotella 15W-40 to start with. It may not be the fix, but it'll probably prolong the inevitable. What you do from here depends on how much you're willing to spend.

already running 15-40 in it, i was driving it today for an hour plus and the light dident come on at all, normaly if i drive it for longer than a half hour it would start to flicker, then stay on. i bought the car a couple weeks ago and the only thing i can think of is that the car sat for a while. How hard is it to switch out the oil pump?

It's not too hard, it's on the front of the crank like a japanese car. What year is the car? I don't think simply throwing an oil pump at it is a good idea, unless you're willing to continue to spend money if that simply doesn't work. Throwing parts at the problem rarely yields a proper repair on the first try.
