Default pnp or not?

bought a dirt cheap 960 7 seater today,it had the usual flashing arrow signifying a pnp fault.i did the usual up and down the box to wipe the contacts which didn't help.i then tried pulling and replacing fuse 23 until the arrow goes out (normally works),it didn't.i tried shifting out out of park with brake held down and key at position 2 and it did which i thought was supposed to show pnp is o.k.
the box sometimes shifts fine up and down the box even though the arrow is flashing but more often than not it won't.it also has a very erratic tickover and almost died on me when i was doing 30 mph.should i scrap it and cut my losses?

read my post about the PNP. shifting it back and is not good for it, that is what has made it go bad. there are these little blades in there that slide back and forth over contacts. the blades get grooves in them and no longer make contact. it is not hard to repair. mine is still doing fine.
