Radiator fan wont engage automatically
I have a 96 960. I recently replaced cylinder head and cant seem to get the radiator fan to engage on its own. I bypassed the fan relay and just installed a toggle on/off switch...that works...fan comes on but i keep burning up switches..so before i spend 100.00 bucks on a fan relay..just wanted to know what to check for...
Btw, when i purchased the car, previous owner had bypassed heater core..I have since replaced heater core... dont know if that is rev..or not...but thought i would mention it....thanks for ur suggestions in advance!

Could be a relay issue but also a coolant temp sensor could give you problems with the fan as well. First to do, if u have a check engine light on have it scan at local autozone. If no codes for the coolant sensor ur sencond option its the fan relay wich its probably the problem. The relay is located by the battery, Try and pick one up in a local junkyard, because those fan are not made to work at full blast it might damage the fan also.

radiator fan problem solved!
Thanks for ur suggestion....I unplugged the center plugs on the relay switch because they are very simular to the coil connectors on top of the engine which i have had problems with...(connectors not staying connected causing misfire problems) anyway...the wire connectors inside the connector housing had receded back into the housing and were not actually connected to the relay...
so I removed the housing completely and connected the 2 input wires....started the car...turned the a/c on and within seconds...my fan came on all by itself!! Thanks again!!
