Hello,
I have a 1997 960. The service light comes on for two minutes. I looked it up and found that it is the 10,000 mile service indicator. Called Volvo and was told this was for minor service. Oil change, top off fluids and check brakes etc. I do all of these things myself. Could you please tell me how to reset this? One more thing. When I change the oil, with the proper amount of oil and filter, the dip stick only reads half way between the add and full marks. Should I consider this the full mark? Don't want to add too much oil.

I dont remember the 900s reset but check the insturment cluster for a little black rubber plug. if you remove the plug you can stick a poker in there to reset the light...

Yes the light is only to check fluids and chang the pil. you do it yourself good.

You should wait a little after you change the oil to check it....It needs to settle.

That did the trick. No more service light. As for the oil, I let it sit over night and this is the reading I get. Half way between full and add.

Do you have any oil leaks????
how about the PCV system? clogged?

Has it all given you readings like this?
Assuming you are using the right dipstick and tube????

 

No oil leaks that I can see. No blue smoke. I'll check the pcv valve. The people we got it from, bought it new. They always had it serviced at the Volvo dealer. Don't think they would have had any reason to change the dipstick or tube. You never know though.
