Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool
I have a 1995 Volvo 960.
For serpentine belt tensioner, 1/2" square drive is too small and 3/4" square drive is too big.
Is that a metric size ?
Where can I buy the right tool at a reasonable price?
Thanks

Just about any parts store will sell you one. I'm sure www.iPDUSA.com sells one. This is what I used. Step 6: Timing belt replacement instructions on a 1997 Volvo 960
Take a 3/4 inch short extension and grind or fie down the square end until it fits into the square hole on the tensioner...I made one it's about 1-1/2 long and works fine....found the extension at a flea market for 2 bucks, it's been used many times...it don't get cheaper than that.
I hated that hole that didn't allow perfect fitments for a 3/4" adapter. No,it's not a metric and I don't know of any metric drive for socket tools.

I cheated and got an aftermarket (Gates ??) that uses a standard 1/2" hole. Long handled 1/2in drive breaker bar or ratchet and I'm golden.
That OEM hole is just under 3/4". Wished I'd have measured it when I had it off.

11/16 Fits good enough to slide it in, easy enough to get it out and not get stuck.
I think the tensioner T45 is a bigger pain in the butt. I actually took my tools to the jy to practice on them and found that they come out easier with a cheater/breaker bar on the rachet wrench. Nice smooth fluid motion and it comes out every time.

I was actually trying to get another tool manufactured that was the correct size with a 3/8" hole in the center for a standard rachet but the guy wanted $900 for 5 of them and something like $35,000 for 3,000 of them.
