Default strength of the 2.9's rods??

hey guys, havent been on here in a while. i have an audi S4 as a project car now, running full stage 3 on it. anyhow, i have a s80 and a 1996 960, and i was wanting another project car when my audi is finished. i was going to try and fabricate a turbo manifold for the 960, maybe throw a gt28 on there or something. was trying to see what the rods will hold, how strong are they?? also was going to see if there was any type of program in which i can view knock, timing and MAP and anything i can tune or adjust the ecu map with.

thanks!!

yeah, id kinda like to get a little info, you would think with a gt35 or gt28 that running it at 8-10 psi would be great for this car. def be a sleeper.. lol.. would have great spool and either of those would pull hard to redline. might even be good on a stock injector, i guess you could mount a wideband, and see how much correction the car can give with the stock fuel injectors.. then if you added a devils own kit, and enough meth, you may not have to even adjust the ecu map. is there a way to adjust the timing manually on these cars?? i dont even know enough to do it properly, im sure it would be fun, and if you can get it to run decent as a dd and put 300whp to the ground it would be a beast!!

you would have super quick spool, especially if you dont change the head gasket out and run on the same compression... im kicking myself now, i had 2 k03 turbos that were in great shape that would be AWESOME for this experiment.. youd have to get some bigger rubber just to keep the rear end planted for sure.. i guess you could just start with a mbc, and then watch knock voltages.. see when it looks dangerous running super rich..

then again, is there no software to monitor volvos?? like ecu-x with the audi?? and then adjust like lemmiwinks??

It's a Bosch ECU, so it probably isn't all THAT different from the people tuning the OBD1 BMW's. My concern would be the aluminum block, but 8-10 psi shouldn't be too much of an issue. I would NOT recommend stock injectors with an FMU or meth injection. Good way to melt the motor.

I've seen some killer 960's on youtube. I think those engines can handle a lot.

There are a few video's I can't find now.

those are some cool vids, but i wonder what internal work they have done, if any. i guess ill call up my buddy terry coon when i get my S done and i dont have to rely on the volvo as a daily, ya know?? id love to throw 10 psi at it with some bigger injectors, more timing and water/meth. maybe a bigger fuel pump?? my s4 is a sleeper, but this car would be a super sleeper.. lol.

Man, I couldn't even find the real video's that I was looking for. They have some really killer 960's out there. Most people don't do anything to the internals from what I've heard. They push them way up on hp and keep on going. Most of the weekness is in the mounts & suspension.
