Default Transmission Woes????

Hi All:

I have a 97 960 wagon and I have about 135,000 miles on it. Last year I was pulling out of my parents driveway, (a really steep hill) and I got half way up and the tranney just stopped, and the engine revved. Las week, I put the car in reverse (not on a hill) and it took a liitle higher rpm to get it moving then was a little sluggish but thought it was ok because the car was sitting for 4 days and it was 20 degrees F outside. It sat for anther couple of days and I had the sluggish problem again going in reverse then it took a lot of rev's to get it going forward. I got to the first stop sign, came to a stop and that is where it sat until I could get it towed home. Do I need to add fluid or does this sound like a more major problem? If I need to just add fluid or change it, is there a link to tell how this is done? Thanks.........

like tech said check the fluid level asap! then, did you ever changed the fluid? i had tranny problems where my tranny was "jumping" between 3rd & 4th gear like crazy. i got the car used with 100k miles. theammocco shop folks told me that tranny is bad and wanted around $2000 to fix it. guess what, i totaly flushed tranny and she now works like a brand new. cost: less than $100. so ammocco, kiss my butt!!!!

It could be torque converter.

check the fluid level

You have to elevate the car to pull out the transmission dipstick unless you have a long extension to reach the dipstick to check it under the hood.

I have 96 960 wagon so it must be the same.
