probably a thousand posts around this- but my daughter's S60 transmission was scanned this morning at the local independent Volvo shop and there are internal issues on the transmission...

I've called around and found options as simple (LOL) as the valve body replacement at ~$1,800 to full replacement $4,100

are we crazy to do this on an '03 with 104k miles?

 

Hmmmm, here's my opinion. IF you have done the timing b, pcv system already and it runs strong and well maintained...then its worth 1800. If not then get rid of it. $4100 is too much either way. I'd look at a junk yard.

 

that's our issue - she bought the car for $5k a little over a year ago, still owes $2.3k on it - I found some used transmissions for $800 with 80k on the odometer - maybe try that first?
