Default What is the difference between the Volvo 940 and 960?

I have returned to the Volvovärlden (Volvo universe) after an absence of 40 years.

So I don't know the difference between the 940 and 960 which is probably analoogous to the difference between 740 and 760.

Can someone enlighten me?

Tack så mycket! TYVM!

The 900' series are just better 700's, slightly more modern interior with stronger shells and safety, mostly better engines (oil squirters on later models, much better wiring in the early 90's).

Between the 940-960 the biggest difference will be the engine, the front end, and a few interior bits, the 960 feels nicer, but the 940 is much nicer to work on. The same goes for the engine differences.

Ones about luxury, the others about lasting.

Thank you for this very succinct and complete answer!

On a related topic:
Has anyone put together a listing of interchangeable parts among the 700-800-900 series cars?

Also, I find that there e three ways to refer to a Volvo wheel: a name, a Volvo OEM part number and a five-digit part number.

Is there a chart of these rims?

I know that the ET on my 960 rims, whether 15" or 16", is 15mm. How much room do I actually have?

What about tire height, if I wanted something besides a tire with an aspect ration other than 55 or 65. Like 75 and a taller tire?

Thanks again!

Virtually anything will swap between a late 90's 740-940, the -60s series less so. Seats, window switches, and minor interior bits will swap between all 7-9 series, shockingly the wagon taillights will swap between all 7-9 series years, even V90 tailights will swap.

Between the 800-900 maybe a few plastic tabs will swap or the electric fans, otherwise the 800-S70 was a completely different car with virtually no interchangeable parts.

So 760 seats will fit a 960?

If they're powered/heated you may have to check the wiring, but yes they will bolt in.
