Default Word of advise!!

So while i was finishing changing the timing belt on my 97 960 everything good when i accidentally hit the radiator with the wrench and broke it, so i went to a junkyard to buy a cheap used radiator for 60$ and installed in my car the thing is that the radiator was broken where you connect the transmission cooling lines sending water to the tranny and messing up the whole cooling system with trans fluid so you might know the mess that happen there so my tranny went out ... lol funny some mechanic wanted to charge me 750 for the whole timing belt change so i save a few bucks doing it myself and for being cheap this happens.. now tranny will cost me 1200 full rebuild...

word of advisee inspect radiatorss when bought used..
dont let the car overheat and take care of them lol

Are you sure the tranny is gone? I would install a new radiator, flush the transmission and see if it works.

I tend to remove radiators if I'm doing heavy front of engine work, it just saves this sort of hassle. If you don't want to remove, get a piece of heavy cardboard and tape it up to protect the radiator.
Live and learn, we've all broken other parts fixing something else.
