1993 850 GLT M56 Removal
Hey all, I purchased a 93 850 recently and I need to replace the M56L transmission due to an internal failure. I plan on doing the rear main seal, resurfacing the flywheel, new clutch kit and throw out bearing. All the goodies.
I’m seeking advice for the best way for me to go about getting to the transmission to do all this.
No floor lift, no hoist, nothing fancy, just floor jacks and stands and an engine support bar.
Is it better to keep the subframe attached and let it hang while I tilt the engine down to access the trans or could I just drop the whole subframe to give myself a little more room to lower the engine and trans. Would it even be worth the trouble or is it simple enough to do it and let the subframe hang.
Thanks for any help.

Check out Youtube - there's a RobertDIY video on removing a manual transmission from an 850. There's also a whole transmission removal tutoral on Matthews forum - it's for an automatic but it should be able to answer your questions on whether the subframe needs to dropped or just loosened.
just had my front CV axle passenger side replaced because when I had my front rotors and pads replaced, my mechanic noticed axle leaking. Keep making these great votd.
