Default 1994 850 Turbo wagon sunroof blows fuse

I have a 1994 850 Turbo wagon with 50,000 miles on it.

The sunroof keeps blowing the fuse after working for a day or so. It works smooth when it works - I lubed the tracks and everything.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

When the motor is being used, does it get hot? If so, it is going bad and burning up a lot of power, which is why the fuse is popping.

Demian: FCP is right on this one. When electrical components start to go, their power consumption goes up. Look through junk yards for the sunroof motor. If you didn't know, it's under the plastic piece on your roof thats up by the rear view mirror. IIRC, it only take 4 screws to remove it.

I will pull the cover off and check the motor temp while operating. I can put a higher amp fuse in there and the sunroof runs smooth, no struggle at all. As nice as my normally operating 1998 S70.
Thans for the hints. I'll check it and post back up.

Make sure you only use the proper fuse! If the motor pulls too much juice, it's possible your wires will melt - or worse, something will start a fire. The fuse is there for a real good reason!

+1!!

I like to plug in temporary circuit breaker during diagnosis, like this guy demonstrates here:

That way you don't go through a ton of fuses!

Just bought a 96 850 and the previous owner said this is the problem.... glad I don't have to pull the headliner to get to the motor. Thanks

will let you know what it turns out to be.
