When I start my car and drive for approximately 100 yards I almost always hear a single distinct SCRAPE sound coming from the rear of my car. I have owed my 1995 850 GLT for two years. This has been going on for two years. No one can find anything wrong back there. I recently changed the rear brakes but still the problem exists. I would appreciate any suggested remedies.

 

Is the sound made for the 100 yards, or does it happen once after driving 100 yards?
Have you checked the e-brake pads? Maybe something is getting jarred loose.

If it's been going on for 2 years, and you have no problems, it is likely that it's your brake pads letting loose after being applied. You may not hear it past 100 yards is the fact that road noise may be drowing it out.

Turn your stereo on before you start moving forward and you'll be fine.

 

I like the way rspi thinks....if it isnt getting any worse, then dont worry about it.

 

I was going to suggest it was a body in the back scratching to get out but if its been going on for two year thats probably not the problem.
