Default 1995 Volvo 850 manual swap

Swap has been finished. Car starts but I have no speedometer. My car should have a trans with a speed sensor plug but it doesn't. I have heard you need to tap into the wheel sensor for it to work when you have a trans without the speed sensor. I have tried it and I am not getting signal. I also am wondering should I try switching the wires? Does that matter?

Does your trans have the speed sensor or not? (black plug near the axles) I cant tell by what you typed.

If you do, just plug and play. If not it taps into the ABS line on the wheel.

Its just a pulse that it needs to see.

The trans is an m56h without the speed sensor. The car is a 95 with the older and system and it has a speed sensor plug. We have tried wiring the speed sensor plug wires to the abs wheel sensor and we get no speedometer signal.
Could it just Be that the wires need to be switched around? Maybe I have the polarity wrong .

Never tried this swap so I cannot be much help, but if it was me I would at least try swapping the wires in case the polarity is wrong. I'd also check for broken/pinched wires. Lastly are you sure the ABS wheel sensor is good and is putting out a proper pulse signal?

Good luck, I will be interested to see how it all turns out.

You got a trans from 96 with no speedometer sensor in the trans. What you can do is grab from the left ABS sensor the wires (splice them) and connect them to the connector which is now not connected.

Have a look here http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showpo...0&postcount=22
