Default 1996 AC - Driver 1/2 Cold - Passenger 1/2 Hot

I just had the evaporator replaced by a local mechanic. When it came back, the passenger vents would blow hot for a short bit and then go to right to cold. We did not think much of it until today, when the hot (and I mean hot) air continues to blow through the passenger vents.

We found out we could get the passenger vent back to a/c cold by turning the temperature as high as it would go, cycling through the various control settings a couple of times, and then dropping the temperature back to AC cooling levels. The process takes a few minutes.

The mechanic also set off the SRS light, which he unhappily had to pay to have reset.

Has anyone had this problem before and what is the fix? Is there something the mechanic possible did not connect properly or at all in doing the evaporator replacement?

Thanks!

Is yours a Electronic control setup or manual?

Do you have temps in numbers or colors?

The controller might be going bad. When mine went bad it was very close to the same thing.
