Default 5 speed manual vs. auto

How does the manual perform ? I am looking at a 96' 850 sedan w/standard trans, 145k, 1 owner, very very good condition in/out. I own a 96' GLT and haven't had any problems with the auto trans. I realize I would give up the GLT trim, but if the price is better than good I have no problem with the cloth seats (excell. condition). I have been looking for another volvo and this is the first standard I've seen. Don't know if I should walk or talk. Would appreciate any opinions on the pros and cons of volvo's 5 speed, including: is it harder to replace rms?, axles? Thanks

Same axles, same RMS. Maybe easier to replace RMS, although either way, manual or auto, your either still pulling a trans or an engine to get to it.

Tech: thats the same reason I have for doing it. I'd imagine that an 850 turbo wagon with a 5 speed is something of a rarity...

The manual is the way to go. A lot more fun and just as reliable.

As long as it's breathing again, has anyone tried to put a 5 spd AUTO into an 850 ?? I like not having to row but would love to add another gear. Does anyone know if it's possible or if the computer controls on the 5 spd auto are to integrated into the ECM of the newer motronic control ?
