Default 850 ABS light issue at start up

I own a 1995 850GLT Auto estate 2.5 petrol. Ocassionaly when starting the car the ABS warning light stays on whilst the engine is running. The problem is that none of the lights on the vehicle work during this time. Indicators, headlights etc. If I switch the car on and off again a few times the light goes out and everything functions correctly again. It apears to be happening more frequently. The light never appears when the car is in motion(unless driven whilst already on at start up) only at start up and not every time the car is started. Any ideas please.

I've had this happen on my 97. Within one week, either the ABS light would come one while driving, or like you said, it would stay on at startup and no lights would work. Anyways, what I did was I unplugged the ABS sensors at the wheel, and cleaned out the male and female side of the plugs with electrical cleaner and a little sand paper. It just might have just been a fluke, but I've never seen the ABS act up again, and its been a year now.

Sounds like the electrical part of the ignition switch is bad. I will bet when it happens again it you turn the ignition very slightly back all will work fine.

Smile Thankyou

Thanks to you both for your advice. I will try those fixes. I hope I can be as useful to other members at some time.

Regards
Ray
